in Software Update Scam by Scam Alert Editor
So I’m surfing along minding my own business when I click a link from a very popular news aggregation website.

The next thing I see is this BS.

It is merely a fake web page that causes no harm, but you will have trouble closing just this tab.

You’ll probably have to Ctrl-Alt-Del then end the task of your browser – mine was in Chrome. Then restart your browser.
Be sure you do NOT then restore previous session of that damn thing will still be there.

And don’t call the clowns at their number 1-844-277-9869, they’ll just want money.

I will also say this. My experience with this, while not a security risk, is sure annoying. In order to kill that offending page, I couldn’t restore a previous session. Note: in FireFox, you can select to not recover specific tabs, which would have worked in this case. This is pushing me to use Chrome much less now.
